Hurricane Sandy-Not!

As Hurricane Sandy pushed up the coastline, wreaking havoc across NJ, NY city and points north, the weather folks here announced and implied that we too were about to experience our own weather Armageddon.  Well, have a look.  At the bottom of the mountain there was not a flake on the ground.  Madison County, mostly close to the TN line got snow, as did Haywood County.

Hauling...

Finally got around to cutting that mass of "sea oats" type grass all over the hill and hauling it to the dump.  Thanks Jessie for the use of your truck.  And thank goodness for the ladder to climb up there and tamp the stuff down.  Loaded this by hand, thanks, JW!

A Story you can't Bear to Miss!

A story you can't bear to miss:  An email from our neighbor, Russ:

While walking this morning I met Tom Spradling by John Mutersbaugh's. While chatting, Tom mentioned that John's birdbath had been overturned and thought a bear had done it. A few minutes later I was nearing the Craig's property and detected a strong musky odor typical of bear. I looked at the underbrush which showed signs of animal movement and as I was near the spot where the Craig's put their trash, lo and behold, a black bear jumped up and started running. This was about 5 minutes before eight AM. It ran toward the mail box, went behind it (I thought it was going to go down hill), made a quick left turn, ran across Sunny Ridge at an angle and went down into the ditch area. The size was of a young adult; probably the "yearling" we've been seeing around the area. Another great moment of living in the Sunny Ridge Estates.

[This, just after Mr. Bear had mauled our trash can and had come up with only three plastic bags of cat poop!]
